Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for a fee-free place in the NSW Smart and Skilled program, you must meet the following guidelines:

  • Be at least 15 years old.
  • Have left school or be home-schooled.
  • Live or work in NSW, or be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person living in specific NSW border areas.
  • Be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder, or New Zealand citizen.

Fee Free places are limited and not guaranteed for Non-Traineeship Information Technology Programs.

Fee Free is still open for students not on Traineeships if they meet the following requirements:

  • An Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.
  • A person with a disability (either on Disability Support Pension or documented evidence of disability with additional support needs as a result of disability).
  • A person who is the dependant of a person on a Disability Support pension (needs evidence of dependant on a Disability Support Pension recipient).

Fee Free is still open for Certificate III and IV for:

  • A Fee Free Scholarship eligible student undertaking a qualification up to and including Certificate IV.
  • Concession eligible aged between 15 to 30 years inclusive (Commonwealth Gov Benefit recipient- current Card, letter or income statement with CRN number).
  • A person aged between 15 to 30 years who is or was in Out of Home Care.
  • A person who is experiencing or has experienced domestic and family violence or their dependant (self declare).

Eligible Visa Categories for Refugees and Asylum Seekers:

Permanent Visas:

  • 203, 202, 201, 866, 200, 204.

Temporary Visas:

  • Bridging BVA, BVB, BVC, BVD, BVE (Must be able to show they have applied for a Humanitarian Visa).
  • 790, 786, 449, 785.

Partner Visas:

  • 309-100, 820, 801 (Must be able to show their sponsor holds or held a humanitarian Visa).
